Day Thirteen
October 14, 2023
put a lid on it
saturdays are half days, plus optional for non-crew. so the team working on the build is smaller.
you can see in the picture above that the rafters are two-thirds done. it takes a team of 2-4 to get those done because they’re so big. and as you can tell from their angle, the roof is going to slope towards the back of the structure. i’m looking forward to getting a roof on this thing. : )
i didn’t walk around the structure today because it hasn’t changed, but here are front, left, and right.
for those interested in plans, here’s a floor plan, to give you a look at the whole.
i actually haven’t examined them much at all. i’m much more focused on the tasks at hand - building forms for a concrete pour, mixing the concrete and wheelbarrowing it to where it’s needed, etc.
i had a short conversation about staging today, getting everything ordered and in place. as you can imagine, it’s a really significant factor in how well, how smoothly the build runs. it’s a job with negative risk - if people are talking about the you, it’s probably because something’s gone wrong. but if your job is going well, no one notices. kinda like being an IT guy. : )
so we’re short a few anchor bolts. but why go out and buy them when you can simply make them out of materials you already have. that’s what this is:
place that nail-side down into wet concrete and it’s anchored in there.
and this again highlights another aesthetic of earthships - make use of what you have.
