Day Nine
October 10, 2023
starting something new
how quickly can i get this blog post done? just like at the end of every other day working here, i’m exhausted.
there was great rejoicing when the tire wall sides were measured and found to be at the same height. one side of the land was a little lower than the other so there are more courses of tires on the left side than the right.
i think i learned tonight that the crew hangs out and has a beer or two at the end of the day. usually i leave and head back to my airbnb because i have things i need to get done. but maybe i hang a little bit. i like these people and enjoy our conversations.
sorry, that’s all i have for tonight … weary.
another walk around the site. that’s the full course of tires. a lot of dirt getting delivered so that the berm can get built up. dirt also used to fill up the space between the tire wall and thermal wrap (hard insulation covered by the dark plastic vapor barrier).
i walk up the wing wall and now the dirt is piled up almost to the full height of the tire wall.
looking down into the structure, we put up some forms for pouring the concrete stem wall. this will be the first layer of glass, separating the greenhouse and the rooms. in this space, btw, there will be a bedroom at either end and a kitchen/dining room combo in the center.
the last photo was taken at the end of the day after we’d completed the concrete pour. in the very back you can see the dirt comes up to the top of the cisterns.
